Living your dreams
True life is lived when tiny changes occur (Leo Tolstoy)
Each year many of us make new years resolutions, only to see them lying in tatters less than a month later. Good thing too in many ways, for we often resolve to do things because we think we should rather than because we want to.
What about the things we do want to do though? It would be a pity to see those fall by the wayside along with the rest. Not surprisingly, the key thing is to take action.
Anthony Robbins, the American peak performance coach, recommends massive action, but for many busy people massive is just too much to contemplate. However, action has to be taken if we are to make our dreams come true, and the good news is that small is okay to start with. Just doing something, anything, to move us towards our dreams fires our imagination and helps us to maintain motivation.
The secret is to keep it simple. We can transform our lives one change at a time, so its a good idea to select one change you especially want to make, one wish you want to come true, and concentrate on that for now. There will be plenty of time and opportunities for making other changes, and often one change ripples over into all the other parts of your life, making later changes easier to accomplish.
All too often we talk ourselves out of things before we even start. We tell ourselves that the thing we want is silly, or that it won't work anyway. We put seemingly insurmountable obstacles in our own paths, imagining problems and difficulties that often stop us from trying anything new. So our dreams turn to memories, and we stay the same.
What if we saw it differently? What if we knew that anything we tried would work out okay?
With that new thought, just ask yourself: What would I do if I knew it would work out perfectly?
Then try whatever comes to mind. It doesn't matter whether its something small like having your eyelashes tinted or something big like travelling to Peru. Take action, no matter how small. Find out who tints eyelashes in your area, even talk to someone who's had it done, or make the appointment! Pick up travel brochures, start a travel fund, or even set a date in your mind!
Small actions lead to bigger ones. Small changes lead to changed lives.
