Relaxation and stress relief

Quick Win

In a busy day, thinking about what's been and what's to come, we so easily lose touch with our quietness and intuition.

Just two minutes a day of quiet breathing can bring us back into a centred, relaxed state and open our minds to new, creative ideas.

So try it - sit down somewhere quietly, close your eyes and breathe deeply, taking the air down into your stomach, for a couple of minutes. Try to empty your mind. If you find this difficult (and many people do) there will be ideas and hints in the next newsletter. Try to do this every day, even working up to three or five minutes, and notice the difference

Quick Win

If you've been trying to sit quietly for a couple of minutes a day as suggested in the last newsletter you may have found that it's sometimes difficult to quieten your mind. If so, you might find the following ideas helpful:

  1. Deep breathing automatically quietens the mind and puts you more in touch with your body. Breathe down into your stomach, not just into your chest, slowly and purposefully. Even if your mind doesn't quieten, you will benefit from the relaxation and extra oxygen!
  2. See your mind as a great tree, with your thoughts as monkeys jumping about and swinging from branch to branch. Then just ask the monkeys to settle down for a while, and watch as they sit and doze off. You'll be surprised at how effective this can be!
